A commercial egg incubator makes sense once you are hatching to sell: broiler chicks for local growers, point-of-lay pullets, or indigenous chickens such as Potchefstroom Koekoek and Boschveld. At this size the incubator is the heart of the business, so steady temperature across every tray matters more than anything else.
Fertile eggs first. Size the machine to the fertile eggs you can reliably produce or buy each week. A full 5,280-egg machine earns more than a half-empty 10,000-egg one.
A stable room. Put large incubators in a clean, ventilated room that stays between about 20 and 27 °C. Avoid sunlight on the cabinet and keep it away from your birds for biosecurity.
Backup power. For a commercial hatchery a generator or inverter is essential, not optional. See hatching during load shedding and how much electricity an incubator uses.
Many commercial hatcheries run a separate hatcher so the main incubator (the setter) can be refilled while the last batch hatches. When you start out, one machine can do both jobs. We explain the trade-off in incubator vs hatcher.
Every commercial model comes with a 2-year warranty, setup training and nationwide delivery. You can pay cash on delivery or by EFT. Work out profit per batch with our hatchery profit calculator, and see how to start a hatchery business and funding for poultry farmers.

Yes. A long power cut late in incubation can kill a whole batch, so hatcheries should run a generator or inverter with enough capacity for the machine.
